Residing on the Mountain

July 7, 2018

I've been working on the Pen y Cymoedd Wind Energy Site in South Wales as artist is residence for several weeks now and I've been working alongside photographer Dale Poole & sculptor Chris Williams. The nature of the Site is such that having someone with me is important for my safety as I am still learning to read maps and orientate myself within this massive site, spread over 84 km.

Understanding that the site is a place of work for those working on the turbines, at the Hwb or service station or out logging or maintaining areas has been something I have learnt to appreciate. I am essentially working within someone else's work place - and we are all working within nature.

This current spell of hot & dry weather has meant being self sufficient for water and keeping cool is a priority, so carrying heavy sketch books and materials can be hard during an 'eight hour shift'. It is a very physical way to work and I am grateful for pit stops in the shade.

In this bright clear sky weather the turbines are almost invisible on the horizon...
