Back from a recent visit to California (which included Marin County) I've had some time to reflect on the importance of having a break. This photo was taken outside the Marin Museum of Bicycling (sadly closed at the time). My first mountain bike was named after an area of Marin County (called Pine Mountain) and I loved that bike and racing it , as and when I could. That was in the late 1980s and I rode every day to art college and across the local commons. I still mountain bike but pretty rarely - and I miss it.
I'm planning to get out on my bike more and use it to get to places where I can draw and study the landscape more closely. Seeing this bike and being reminded of my Pine Mountain days gave me a boost and a yearning for the trails and tracks of South Wales.
Nothing like a bit of California sunshine to revive you!
