Love on the high street

February 19, 2017

If ever there seemed to be a time when we needed love  -  that time is now.

In my lifetime (get close to 50 years now) I have never felt such extreme views pulling people apart and it can be overwhelming at times. There are the occasional flurries of responsive humour and a pervasive palpable defiance of the haters but things feel tense. I base this on what I read on social media as I don't take a newspaper or have a TV.

But it's a different story of sorts at the Workers Gallery where I work. Several people come in weekly and buy gifts and art for their loved ones. They take time to get that perfect lovespoon, painting or greeting card that shows their love. From a £1.50 card to a £1 000 sculpture the consideration and care to get exactly the right item is fuelled by love. I see it. Here on the high street of a small welsh village there is love.
